I’m Jack Li, and I’ve worked in the rotary encoder field for many years.
This website is where I share my technical understanding, engineering case studies, and industry observations related to rotary encoders. Topics include absolute encoders, incremental encoders, industrial communication interfaces, model and series analysis, troubleshooting, and replacement engineering for legacy or discontinued encoder models.
Through my work, I have encountered encoders from many different brands, product generations, and application environments. Over time, I have found that many encoder-related problems cannot be evaluated simply by looking at a model number or a few key specifications. Mechanical dimensions, shaft type, flange design, resolution, accuracy, output signals, communication protocols, wiring, rotation direction, preset functions, and control-system configuration can all affect compatibility and real-world performance.
For this reason, I am more interested in the engineering logic behind a product than in simply listing specifications. I focus on why certain parameters matter and how they affect actual applications.
Here, I document representative encoder models and series, analyze how products evolve over time, examine the relationship between older and newer models, and discuss the replacement challenges that often arise when legacy products are discontinued. Some articles are based on real engineering projects and explain how a replacement solution was developed, including which mechanical, electrical, and communication parameters needed to be verified first.
In addition to specific technical topics, I also share my observations and thoughts on encoder product development, brand changes, market demand, and broader industry trends.
I hope these accumulated notes can provide useful reference for engineers working on equipment maintenance, model identification, encoder selection, system upgrades, or replacement of discontinued encoder models.
